Grooming show horses

Horses for show are judged according to their presentation in different categories in the competition often referred to as classes.
There are many different breeds of horses and many different titles that are competed for. Equestrian shows can be local, national and even international and proper grooming of show horses is very important.
The overall exhibition of horses is judged in many areas and includes appearance, movement and form. Some of these competitions may also include ponies in a different category off course.
Perception is everything in these shows, if your horse is not prepared to a high standard no one gives it much attention and is likely to not make the top rankings, this is where horse grooming comes in.
During the winter season much more time and attention is needed to groom a horse, visiting a horse groomer is the first step. There are a variety of horse tack and grooming supplies such as horse shampoo and horse bridles found in the local equestrian shops, or you can buy online at sites like this http://www.wbperformancehorses.com or http://www.camikyarabians.com But if you cannot handle the job yourself getting in touch with a horse groomer would be advisable.
Bridles worn in the horse’s mouth are used to direct the horse to the left or the right, basically for communication between the horse and its rider. These are sometimes called horse bits. It is a common mistake by many to refer to the bridle as a horse halter.  A horse halter is  also known as the head collar or the headstalls is usually tied on the horses’ head,  fitted behind its ears and runs to the muzzle. This is used on many domesticated animals and has not changed for centuries. It is from this halter that the reins are attached and the rider can use it to lead the horse. Some riders place the bridle over the halter, and some riders choose to remove the halter and only use the bridle.
It is a common misunderstanding that for a big animal like a horse a strong bit must be used , this is not the case if wrongly placed it could cause damage to the horse’s mouth inflicting tremendous pain. Further more because of the pain, communication will be hampered while affecting the overall health of the horse, something that you cannot afford to do with a show horse.
Whatever you choose while grooming your horse is totally up to you, beware though that the horse products you use should be the best fit for your horse and if your horse in comfortable you will get the best possible results in your competition.
While competing, a wide range of horse gear must be used from horse saddles to equestrian clothing. This could also determine a win or a loss.
When choosing your equestrian clothing keep in mind what class you are competing for, both for you and your horse.
Keep in mind horse blankets in winter need to fit snug and are warm enough. A blanket that that is not warm enough is worse than no blanket at all. In cold weather, the horses hair coat stands up to trap additional warm air close to the body and when you use blankets they make the horses coat flat.
Show horses are delicate and unbelievably expensive animals. It is for this one reason that their owners spare no expense in ensuring their prized horses are well taken care of.
During summer horses have their own dress better known as equestrian clothing. These are updated every season. In the summer, horse sheets are the way to go. They come in a range of colors and most likely match their riders colors. These sheets can cost between $ 20 to $ 50 each. Most of these are made of cotton to enable the skin to breathe easily and also keep the horse cool.
Horse grooming is pleasurable for your horse and it can be for you. Through grooming you can assess the overall condition of your horse and ensure its tack is in good working order and well maintained. Sometimes it may need to be replaced. This is especially important if  your pony or horse is for sale.
To groom a horse well, you will need horse supplies such as a curry comb or grooming mitt, a body brush with fairly stiff bristles, a mane and tail comb (plastic causes less breakage than metal ones), a fine soft bristled finishing brush, a hoof pick and a clean sponge or soft cloth.
